Abstract

Abstract: The juridical system is an important field where the historians can get an overview of the history of people through this system. Researchers are able to find more about social, economic and architectural relations of any society by researching the juridical system of this society. When we examine the attempts of reform of these courts, we will be able to draw a picture of the medieval society in the Maghreb. Hence, there is a need to look at the primary sources such as the courts’ verdicts, juridical documents and the judge’s notes. Among the families of Telemcen and the Middle Maghreb, the family of al-Mazuni was one of the great and famous families who inherited the positions of judges for decades. The father al-Mazuni was well known of his work in the judge court as qadi. I used one of his two important manuscripts on Qada’, which is: al-muhathab al-ra’iq fii tadriib al-naashi’ min al-qudhat wa ahl alwatha’iq The paper focus on some of the problems of these courts, which the father al-Mazuni experienced it and attempted to resolve through his own way of reform, where the judge was his main focus of this reform. We have also highlighted some of the administrative and social issues as we find it in the work of al-Mazuni.
